A Retrospective of Sarah Maldoror

A key figure in cinema, Sarah Maldoror will be honored at the Centre Pompidou in spring 2025. The filmmaker has directed more than 40 films, exploring themes related to decolonization, Black culture, and iconic figures of African and Afro-descendant thought. Among her notable works are Sambizanga (1972), "Et les chiens se taisaient" (1978) and "Aimé Césaire – Le masque des mots" (1987). Her cinema, both political and poetic, blends fiction, documentary, and experimentation, offering a unique perspective on the struggles and aspirations of colonized and post-colonial peoples.

As part of its MansA Heritage cycle, MansA is supporting the restoration of several key films by the filmmaker, finally making major works that have long been invisible accessible to the public. This program is part of the Paris Noir exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, which highlights artistic movements and the struggles of people of African descent in France.
