MansA welcomes essayist Douce Dibondo for a performance followed by a discussion about the book La terre donne, la terre veut (The Earth Gives, The Earth Wants) by Antônio Bispo dos Santos, a major figure in quilombo thought.
On Tuesday, January 13, MansA will welcome essayist, poet, and performer Douce Dibondo for an evening of performance and discussion. The event will focus on the book La terre donne, la terre veut (The Earth Gives, the Earth Wants), a poetic manifesto by thinker and quilombo activist Antônio Bispo dos Santos. In this work, the Brazilian author defends a worldview based on connections, circularity, ancestral memory, and reconciliation between human knowledge and the forces of nature. His reflections focus on our relationship with animals, the body, gardens, and food, and invite us to deconstruct the foundations of the Western colonial world through a resolutely anti-colonial philosophy.
In response to this idea, Douce Dibondo will present a theatrical performance that combines ritual and visual poetry. Through physical performance, she will pay tribute to the quilombo heritage and explore alternative ways of inhabiting the world, marked by slowness and presence. The performance will be followed by a discussion about her choice of text and her artistic and literary work.
Douce Dibondo is the author of the poetry collections métacures (2023, Blast) and infra/seum (2024, Blast), and the essay La Charge Raciale, Vertige d’un silence écrasant (2024, Fayard). Her work explores Blackness, queerness, feminism, ancestry, and decoloniality.
