Tasting is about remembering. It’s also about moving, transforming, and reinventing. With “The Flavors of the Diasporas,” MansA explores cuisines as spaces of living memory, where traditions, stories, and imaginations flow across borders.

What do we take with us when we leave a place? What remains, what changes, and what is reinvented elsewhere?

The “Taste of the Diasporas” weekend invites participants to explore cuisine as a language in its own right: a space where stories are passed down, legacies are preserved, and a sense of belonging is reimagined. Through culinary practices, narratives of movement, adaptation, and creation come to life.

Conceived as a living table, this moment brings together actions and words in a single fluid motion. During the cooking demonstration, conversations unfold in time with the preparation of the dishes, reminding us that cooking is also a way of telling stories. Recipes become living archives, forms of transmission—sometimes invisible, often powerful.

The weekend extends into a shared experience where the audience is invited to taste, listen, share, and participate. The buffet, the live podcast, and the reading are all part of this collective sharing of stories, where everyone can contribute their voice, memories, or imagination.

On a deeper level, Farah Keram’s article “Tasting the Diasporas” sheds light on these issues by highlighting contemporary editorial and culinary practices, particularly through the work of Victory Chikwadoro and her magazine Bia! Zine.
