At the University of Ibadan, a generation of students is transforming every screening into a vital space for debate, challenging stereotypes and reinventing resistance.
On January 29, 2025, MansA invites you to discover Alain Kassanda's documentary Coconut Head Generation at Point Ephémère. The film offers an intimate look at the cine-club at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria's oldest, where every Thursday students gather to screen films and engage in debate on social and political issues.
Through passionate discussions, these young people deconstruct the derogatory term “coconut head”—used to describe a generation deemed out of touch—to assert their freedom of thought and their commitment. The film captures their struggle to redefine societal models, addressing themes such as corruption, patriarchy, the restitution of African artworks, and economic inequality.
The screening will be followed by a meeting with director Alain Kassanda, who will share his experience of filming and his vision of the role of cinema in the political mobilization of younger generations.
