Exhibition

MansA opens its doors with Roxane Mbanga's Grand Salon

For its inauguration, MansA Maison des Mondes Africains has entrusted its keys to multi-disciplinary artist Roxane Mbanga. With the exhibition NOIRES, she presents her Grand Salon, conceived as a place for meeting, listening and hospitality.

Since 2022, Roxane Mbanga has been building NOIRES like a dream house. An itinerant project nourished by her Guadeloupean, Cameroonian and Ivorian heritage, and by stories collected during her travels in Africa and the Caribbean, it now unfolds at MansA in an original version, conceived in situ.

The Grand Salon imagined by the artist becomes the centerpiece of this house: a living space, inhabited by voices, presences, silences and memories. Through original creations – illustrations, paintings, sculptures, textiles, furniture, and objects with emotional significance – Roxane Mbanga proposes a place where everyone can find refuge and tell their own stories.

At the heart of this installation, door sculptures inspired by traditional African and West Indian architecture open up passages between heritages and identities. With no hierarchy of values, each object finds its place and composes an indissociable whole: a total, generous work that affirms that there is nothing to give up, that we are whole and in our place.

The exhibition will be open to visitors from 4 to 26 October at MansA. Admission is free, but reservations are required: individual visitors can book 45-minute slots, up to 3 places per reservation, while groups are invited to contact MansA.

A house to live in together

The opening of MansA marks the beginning of an adventure: that of a house conceived as a living space, inviting visitors to explore the African worlds and their diasporas in all their diversity, creativity and imagination.

Entrusting this first stage to Roxane Mbanga is no accident. With NOIRES, MansA affirms its ambition to become a place for storytelling, sharing and collective creation: a house where everyone can project their ideal, their dream, and live together.

Throughout October, the exhibition will be accompanied by a cultural programme featuring meetings, performances and workshops on the themes explored by the artist.
